What is the Disability Confident Scheme ?

The UK Government's Disability Confident scheme is an initiative which shows employers how to commit to recruiting, retaining and developing disabled people. Through Disability Confident, the Government aims to work with employers in the UK to:

  • challenge attitudes towards disability;
  • increase understanding of disability;
  • remove barriers to disabled people and those with long term health conditions in employment; and
  • ensure that disabled people have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.

The Disability Confident employer scheme has three levels. Organisations must complete each level before moving onto the next. Mode details are available on the links opposite

  • making sure your application process is accessible
  • advising you about recruitment practices that open up jobs to disabled people
  • information about making reasonable adjustments that can help someone start or keep their job
