Career Development Loans (CDLs) are designed for people who wish to learn new career skills or update existing ones, or who want to make a career change. They can be used for a wide range of vocational work-related courses.
You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 for up to two years learning to cover course fees, books and equipment, and living expenses.
CDLs are available through an arrangement between the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and three high street banks; Barclays Bank, The Co-operative Bank and the Royal Bank of Scotland. The LSC will pay the interest on your loan while you are studying and for up to one month after you finish training. Remember that these are personal loans between you and the bank and you will be responsible for repayments which are made at a fixed rate of interest.
