Electrician- HMP Thameside £28K

HMP Thameside is a category B establishment that can currently hold 900 convicted and remand male prisoners. At HMP Thameside we provide a safe, decent, secure and respectful environment that encapsulates a wide range of constructive activities.

We are currently looking to recruit an Electrician to work at HMP Thameside. This role will require you to work 40 hours per week Monday-Friday 08:00-16:30. Please note that there will be a requirement for you to cover the facilities emergency on call rota 1 in 7 weeks.

Overview of the role
Working as an Electrician at HMP Thameside you will be a subject matter expert within the Facilities Maintenance Department on High and Low voltage installations as well as assisting other trades within the function. You will ensure that the establishment is maintained in a way that is compliant with legislation in line with industry best practice and that electrical systems and stand-by resilience systems are fully functional and available.

On a daily basis you will be responsible for carrying out any planned or reactive maintenance including the upkeep, fault finding/ diagnosis and replacement of electrical systems and PAT testing. Accountable for first line triage and repair/ maintenance of the establishment’s communications system. You will also act as a support to the fire and security engineers in providing electrical maintenance of the establishment’s CCTV, alarm and fire detection and suppression infrastructure.

You will be responsible for tracking and monitoring your own work progress on the CAFM system and for ensuring that your tools and equipment are accounted for and inspected in accounted for at the end of the day.

About you
As the successful candidate you must be able to evidence proven and demonstrable experience of working as an electrician within a facilities maintenance background. It is essential for you to hold an Approved Electrician Qualification (JIB)/ECS Gold Card with 17th Edition and C & G test inspection certificate or equivalent. 

You will have excellent communication skills verbally, written and aurally as you will be reading and working with electrical drawings on a daily basis.

Due to the nature of this role is essential that you have the ability to read and work with electrical drawings.

Specific Requirements
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office.

We are looking to appoint the successful candidate at the end of March 2017.

The base salary for this role is £28,000 per annum.
