Volunteering in your area

There will be many opportunities for volunteering in your area. Volunteering England is a national volunteer development organisation with a network of volunteer centres across the country. There are similar organisations in Northern Ireland and Wales. See the links on this page for your nearest centre. You can also make direct contact with the personnel departments of local organisations that interest you.

Work Together is for anyone who is unemployed and looking for work. Work Together gives you the opportunity to volunteer with a local voluntary organisation. Volunteering can help you to improve your chances of finding work. Find out more, including when you can take part.

The Big Society is the UK Government's vision of a society where individuals and communities have more power and responsibility, and use it to create better neighbourhoods and local services. There are opportunities to get involved at a number of levels, although implementation across the UK is currently patchy.

Four vanguard areas were launched in 2010, which are :-

  • Liverpool
  • Eden Valley (Cumbria)
  • Windsor and Maidenhead
  • London Borough of Sutton
