Having a disability shouldn’t have to mean you can't get around. You can get information and advice about all types of disability equipment and mobility solutions from ex-Services charities like The Royal British Legion and SSAFA, along with civilian charities like the Disabled Living Foundation. From aids and adaptations in the home, to walking sticks and wheelchairs outside, information is available to help you find solutions that will enable you to stay active and independent.
Information on how to gain funding for your disability is available at GOV.UK; see the link on the right hand side on the page. The main disability benefits available are:
- Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment
- Attendance Allowance
- Employment and Support Allowance
Ex-Service charities can also help you gain extra funding to help you to maintain a high quality standard of living. They can help advise and process your claim to help you secure the funding you are entitled to if you have served in the Armed Forces. In fact since 2007, The Royal British Legion have helped put £70 million back into people's pockets - through increases in benefits, writing off debts and gaining grants - with an average financial gain per person of around £2,800.
