Having a disability can make it harder for you to find work, and once you have a job you may experience problems getting to work and using the facilities when you are there.
There are a number of schemes available through Jobcentre Plus for disabled adults who are returning to work after a period of sickness or rehabilitation, or who face complex barriers to work including:
The Work Programme which can help people further from the job market to prepare for, find and stay in work. It is delivered for Jobcentre Plus by specialist providers and can include activities such as work experience and skills training.
Access To Work which is a Government programme administered by Jobcentre Plus that can help you to overcome problems involving physical access to work. It includes support workers, help getting to and from work and alterations to equipment at work.
Work Choice helps people who require a greater degree of support than can be provided by other work programmes, Access to Work or workplace adjustments. It can offer an individually tailored programme which helps people with disabilities to find and remain in employment by identifying their needs and providing the necessary support to fit their requirements.
To apply for Jobcentre Plus programmes, disabled people can ask to see a disability employment advisor at their local Jobcentre Plus.
