Training Grants Scheme

The Legion Training Grant and Bursary Award Scheme is a Legion welfare scheme funded by the annual poppy appeal. It helps low income, unemployed and low-skilled Legion beneficiaries to gain the qualifications and skills they need to improve their job prospects.

Attending a course of education or training can be expensive and clients may not have sufficient finances to support their attendance on a course of training (including any specialist equipment required to meet individual learning needs). A number of public and charitable organisations (including Services and ex-Services organisations) have funding, grants and bursaries to assist individuals into learning.

In most cases, to be able to receive assistance, the client will need to satisfy the eligibility requirements of these organisations. The Royal British Legion can help the client identify and access available funding opportunities, including Poppy Support funding.

Clients who are can demonstrate a vocational training need and are in need of financial assistance can find more details from the Civvy Street website, by phoning the Helpline on 0800 169 4073 or by emailing traininggrants@civvystreet.org. An application form and eligibility criteria can be obtained from the website or from the above contacts.
