Plain English

Plain English
Civvy Street is currently applying to display the Plain English Campaign’s Crystal Mark on our website. The Plain English Campaign is an independent, internationally recognised organisation that since 1979 has campaigned for everyone to have access to clear and concise information. The Crystal Mark for clarity is the Plain English Campaign’s seal of approval. It shows that an organisation is committed to making its information as clear as possible.

Internet Crystal Mark
The Internet Crystal Mark logo shows that Civvy Street is committed to plain English throughout our site.  It is our pledge to our audience that we are willing to do everything practical to make our site crystal clear.

Our aims
We aim to avoid confusing jargon, unexplained abbreviations and long sentences. We want our audience to be able to read, understand and act upon the information in Civvy Street the first time they read it. The Internet Crystal Mark applies to the appearance as well as the content of a website, and we also aim to present  information that is well designed, clearly laid out and easy to find.

Joining the Plain English Campaign shows that Civvy Street is committed to continuous improvement of our website. With the help of the Plain English Campaign, we will constantly review our site to ensure that it is crystal clear. We know there will be instances where things could be clearer, so we would also like to hear from our audience. If you have any comments about the site or suggestions about how it can be improved, please email us at info@civvystreet.org
