Resettlement Provision for Foreign and Commonwealth Service Leavers

Until April 2007, all Ghurkas leaving Service were required to return to Nepal. Since then, Ghurkas may now opt to discharge directly to the UK and remain here. The Career Transition Partnership provides specialist Career Transition Workshops for Ghurka Service leavers.

As fluency in English improves amongst serving Ghurkas, many are opting to attend the mainstream Career Transition Workshops and have been successful in finding a wide range of jobs

In recognition that some Foreign and Commonwealth Service Leavers will face particular challenges, such as no automatic qualification for British residency or citizenship, the Ministry of Defence has begun to identify specific requirements and provide appropriate supplementary provision, such as an Immigration and Nationality Information Package.
