Housing and homelessness

Minimise this section - Housing and homelessness

If you are leaving the Armed Forces you will probably need to look for somewhere else to live. You should begin by getting as much information as possible about the things that will affect your choices. These include information on your housing options, what to do if you face becoming homeless, and what help you can expect if you are disabled.

Your first port of call will probably be the Joint Services Housing Advice Office (JSHAO). They provide housing information and advice to all Armed Forces personnel and their families.

The prospect of becoming homeless can be very worrying, especially if you have a family to think about. So it is important for you to know about the help available from organisations both connected to the Armed Forces and in Civvy Street that exist to help people in this situation.

If you are disabled, there are also organisations that can give you specialised assistance in finding suitable housing or with adapting your home.
