Pathways to Work

Pathways to Work is a government scheme run by Jobcentre Plus that helps people on incapacity benefit (IB) become independent by getting back into work. The scheme operates in areas of the country where the number of IB claimants is highest.

New IB claimants attend six interviews held at monthly intervals. A trained personal adviser helps them to identify life and work goals and any obstacles they may face. An action plan is agreed and this is reviewed at each meeting. Benefits of the scheme include:

  • NHS employment support and condition management programmes
  • in-work support including job coaches, occupational health advice and financial counselling
  • a £40 per week return to work credit.
