Local and National Newspapers

Though jobs are now often advertised online, newspapers remain an important source of job vacancies which you should check regularly. You will be able to find daily national and regional papers in your local library which is also a good place to do your research.

The job sections of national and regional papers often specialise in certain areas on certain days. They also carry careers advice and run special articles devoted to particular industries or careers. Most national papers will also focus on one industry sector on a particular day. For example, Monday in the Guardian is 'Creative and Media'. Follow the links for the national and regional press to see what papers specialise in what and when.

While national papers will often carry more senior and well paid jobs, local papers are one of the best ways to find out about vacancies in a particular area or a job that is near to where you live.

Even if you can't find the job you are looking for, newspapers are a good source of contacts for making speculative applications.

Most newspapers also advertise jobs online and you can also view many of these jobs on jobsearch websites.
