Hi Scully

major problem this, I am looking at retraining to become a plumber cost of the course is 4 and a half grand, I have looked at the goverment EDL which is a loan but once you start paying back the interest goes through the roof. If you can find out any more with funding maybe you can let me know.

The job centre promises help with retraining, but ask for help and you will get a kick in the teeth. I think its a case of biting a bullet and paying for it yourself.

but if anyone know different maybe they could let us know

cheers ken

Hay peeps.

How long are you out the army? if it aint too long then you should still be able to use your Learning Credits, if you go to the website and print off a form and get that sent off. If that dunt work and you are still having major problems, the British Legion can give you an intrest FREE!!! loan to help you out.

If you have an identified training need and meet the eligibility criteria, then what you say is partly true although the financial assistance is now a grant or an award, not a loan..

Anyone wishing to know more about the Legion Training Grant and Bursary Award scheme can do so by clicking on the link provided on the home page of this site when you log in. You can download an application form from this site. However, you should read the Eligibility Criteria very carefully before you apply as there are strict conditions attached and you will need to demonstrate both a vocational need and a financial need in order to be eligible for this scheme. You are also required to identify what job or vocation you are aiming for and whether you have recieved any careers advice.

Further help is available by emailing traininggrants@civvystreet.org or phoning the Helpline on 0800 169 4073 but read the guidelines first

Hope this helps

Hi Scully

If you are registered with Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) you get 3 shots of £2000 towards level 3 and above courses. You should have been registered around 2004, but worth a try. Google ELC and give them a bell with your details, you might be registered and nor know it.

Regards
