Hi there,

I left the army start of 04, suffured since then after being diagnosed with PTSD.  Not had much luck on the Job front, been in and out of a couple.  I'm just enroling on the VET (Vocational Education Training) Programme at Blackburn college doing an HNC in telecommunications. I'm hoping to get some funding from the college and the RBL. The Programme offers many different engineering courses and other general career courses.  They are pretty much designed to fit round your life and you can do them as quick as you can or take as much time as you want.  The course's combine distance learning and short intensive courses at the centre.  http://www.blackburn.ac.uk/site/forbusinesses/vetprogram.htm.  This is the link to the site. They are the prefered supplier of the career transition partnership so they might also be able to offer more help.

Also if anyone has any contacts in the telecomms industry that would be willing just to give me some advice i would be very gratefull.

regards

dave

Dear Dave

I hope that this information on the oppotunities avaliable to you is of some use:

With the merging of data (IT) and telecommunications systems, demand is increasing for technicians who have skills in both fields, especially wireless broadband technologies.

You could find work with telephone and broadband network providers, mobile phone operators, cable, satellite and digital TV companies, rail signal engineering and power transmission firms.

There may also be opportunities with the Ministry of Defence, the armed forces, and the police and emergency services.

With experience and further training, you could progress from installation and repair work to network planning and design, research and development of new products and project management.

You may find the following useful for job vacancies and general reading: (links open in new window)
