I have just left the Navy after spending 2 years as an aircraft technician.  I want to become an electrician, i have sent out cv's to over 50 companies in the last 3 months and had only one reply turning me down.  Im a 21 year old female with an NVQ 2 in Aeronautical Engineering and a pre-apprenticeship award in electrical, mechanical and welding.

Why wont anyone touch me? what am i doing wrong?  how do I get an apprenticeship with someone?

PLEASE HELP ME

Hiya Katie

Dont beat yourself up it happens all the time I t took me a while to adjust to the change from forces life to civvy street, I live in Yorkshire (I KNOW SOMEONE HAS TO, haha) But the new airport at Robin Hood near Doncaster are crying out for Aeronautical engineers and apprentices, they seemed to think there was a shortage of candidates.

Hi Katie, like you i was ex RN (bootie), i have flitted around doing sales jobs for the past 6 years, i am now getting (hopefully ) a Professional Electritions course which will enable me to be a fully qualified spark.  the course will be via home and practicals.  I have been told that if i do six hours aweek i will be fully qualified within a year, if i do eight to ten hours study i will be qualified within six to eight monts.  The course is in four moduels at the end of each module there is a five day practical, by the second module you are able to be a sparkies mate, it may help you to get a job sooner. The legion will fund £3000 to the course cost, which is £5,500 Plus accom (£120 a week). The training company is called ATC, www.tradecareers.co.uk, have a look and see what you think, it is hard out here at first but you do ket by with time, your time in the Navy does go for you, just need to find that right employer, try calling them.

If you need anymore advise/info just drop me a line, i may be able to not make the same mistakes i did?? lol

Right chaps but Katie you seem to be well enough qualified and why you havn`t had a successful reply only goes to prove this country favours a foreigner for minimum wage ...but chin up girl,I`m sure something will turn up with your CV ...

Maybe you guys would like to try the 4exforces website which is aimed specifically at ex forces and tradesmen/women and offers vacancies/courses/links in this country and abroad ....search for  {4exforces} and the site will appear, but you will need to register if you want to apply for any of the many vacancies......

Good luck
