Hi

I am writing on behalf of my nearest and dearest who is due to leave the Navy next week having served 24 years.  Although he is sure that he wants to leave - he is finding the transition very hard phsycologially - he says he needs to 'get it straight in his head'  I totally understand that the change is a big thing for him and wondered if there is any literature out there to help with the leaving process.  I have looked on the internet without success.

Thanks

Ness

I've searched around briefly and I'm not sure about literature but there are some websites that might help.

On CivvyStreet, there is a section on Transitiion http://www.civvystreet.org/Resettlement/tabid/222/Default.aspx. In light of your comments, we will look to extend this further but there is some useful information on specific topics that might help.

On the MOD website there is a useful article about the recent National Audit Office report on tranistion. It's too long to paste the atricle but if you go to http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceNews/DefencePolicyAndBusiness/ForcesResettlementPackagePraisedByIndependentReport.htm you should be able to access it. It has two case studies in there of people who have also left the Services and gives some useful pointers.

The article also refers to the Careers Transition Partnership, who your partner should contact. They provide a range of services for resettlement including resettlement training and help with finding employment. There details can be found at www.ctp.org.uk

Let me know what you think of these. I will look for more information and come back to you when I have something
