Civvy Street Forum

It sure is, specially when the army is the only thing you have ever known. I joined at 16 and after 8 years i cant handle the non-sense anymore, anyone ever compared the army to kindergarden and fond a fair few similarities? only diff i saw was back then, we were playing with toy guns.

Any way, this aint an army gripping session. I have noticed that alot of people seem to be finding hard to find a job, how can this be??? did non of you do CTW? do non of you have career consaultants? or employee consaultants? and i dont seem to be hearing any mention of Right Job either.

Anyway, i got less than 4 months left until civvy street and i am totally having to change my underwear every hour or so =S. Its good to see a forum like this, where we can chatter away with each other, share experiances, help each other out, i know that i will prolly be coming on this every evening ^^.

Yes, it is scary out here!   I served six years regs (Army) and 3 yrs TA and have been out for 15 yrs and still find civvy street hard. I listened to what a lot of other regs were saying when I was in..."Oh it's a piece of cake in Civvy Street, good jobs are easy to find if you've been in". The opposite was true!  Unless you know someone in the know, or you are a CV mad individual and post at least five a day, and are prepared to bother every living soul for the job you want then it will not be easy at all. Back here in (Jack) Civvy Street no-one gives a s*** about what you've done before (unless they've been in the military themselves).  Sorry, but I still don't feel like a civvy because I don't think like one and never will.

Out here in Jack-Land it seems that all the best and most secure jobs go to those other civvies they already know. Best thing I can advise is to get vocational training which is likely to end-up being commercially viable where demand is constant (such as IT technician, or LGV with an ADR for example).  We all know that civvies aren't as trained as us and never will be...but some of them are bloody hard workers and will work most of us squaddies in to the ground just to keep their jobs.  One lesson I had to learn the hard way...just because you have served for Queen and Country and your CV rattles of this military trade and that military qualification doesn't entitle the employer to preference us over competing civvies.  Lastly, try and keep your feet on the ground when finally arriving in jack land...it can be a lonely, insecure place after being in the family.

Good thing about civvy street...no parade at 0745hrs! Other good things....erm - I'll get back to you on that one.

hi sorry to here of you plight, but no one tried harder to get a job when leaving i was also treated like shit by the local councils and would have been treated better if i was an immigrant or junkie eventually i HAD to do my own thing which has been a struggle and only now paying off .

the driscrimination we face is i believe rediculous support is for every other tom dick or mohammad

we get to sit back and watch while all that we signed up for and fought for that made this country great once is given away
